GOOD BYE....

Question 6

Question 4

Who would be the audience for your media product?

Large amount of people who would consider watching teen films. For an example teenagers would defiantly watch the films because they are more likely to relate and understand the social issues which occurs in a film. Normally most teen films have binary oppositions this is to ensure that there is a wider rang of teenagers which are able relate. However adult may watch teen films because it brings back memories of when they were around that age. They can also compare the difference between the social changes in their time and now.

The sub-genre for U.S.B is Teen Drama. The target audience we are aiming for  is both male and female aged 14-19. We chose this because we wanted to get young teenagers to be aware of what types of real life situations there are and how to avoid them. This age range are able to relate more than any younger or older.

Through social media we were able to attract more younger audiences because most and nearly every teenagers have websites like twitter.

Question 5

Question 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product?

We used Lion Paws Films as our distribution company because they are a new distribution company who haven't yet done many films and since they haven't done a UK youth drama we thought that they would ideal use them as our distribution company.

How ever there are advantages and disadvantages of having LionPaws Films as a distribution because they haven't done many films so it could mean that less people will watch if they haven't heard that film distribution company before. However by using them we could make the distribution company more popular. But as we are a low budgeted and independent film they might not want to use us as they might not get as many views and from the required target audience.

Task 5

Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Social groups are normally generalised as stereotypes and stereotypes are always seen as negative and not positive. Representation means when people are being portrayed in a particular way. Our film was a urban youth drama which is normally represented in a negative way. If i think i back to TV drama and representation mise en scene can be be stereotyped because of what they are wearing for an example in our film the characters are wearing dark clothing and people may portray them in a negative way because of clothing. Also setting is important because if set in a certain area of London they can represent it as a negative way for an example like if we were to have shot the film in a block of flats in a run down area of south London that the film is ghetto, unsafe and dangerous.

The stereotypes used in honeytrap are view in a negative way because of the mise en scene and also because of camera angles this is because it was set in south London and south London has been portrayed as a bad area of London and is know for crime. Also the clothes that the characters wore showed that they may be in a gang and know to cause trouble.

Our media product represents young people and young adults, this is because it is aimed at them and they are mainly the type of social groups used in Youth drama and High school drama.

Question 5

We attract/ addressed our target audience by using social  media

We used:

Facebook pages

Vimeo
Youtube
Blogger
Twitter

This is a way to attract the young audience for the youth drama/high school drama. Mostly young teenagers are more likely to use these types of social media websites/apps are more popular and it would attract to our target audience.

Cinema showing was on the 16th of March where 110 Candi AS media students went to the screen on the green in Angel to watch the films. All students videos were either High school drama or Youth Drama.

The DVD in which all the films are on was distributed by the college.

We also ran focus groups to get a rough cut feedback so that we could make improvements to ensure that we attract our Target audience.

In the film opening itself we used similar clothing and  actors/ characters so that the audience can relate in some ways, also by using similar music types that young people can relate and it makes more young people want to watch films that are similar and or are relatable. We made sure that our film can be relatable.

Our setting and location was in a park in East London. Our group thought that the location is typical setting for a youth drama and also we filmed in a block of flats and normally you would see that in youth drama film. Also it relates to elements of our storyline.

In our film opening we used key conventions of a youth drama. We made sure that our audience was pleased with knowing what is happening but also having a bit of mystery behind it, by not giving the whole storyline away.

Evaluation Question 1

In What Ways Does Your Media Production Use, Develop or Challenge Forms And Conventions of Real Media Production?

Conventions of a title sequence is really important because it helps the audience get a better understanding of the film and it can help the audience also relate to the film. The title sequence and idea of our film is being inspired by Honeytrap. The conventions of the film were our main focus as we tried to get our film to be relatable by the music and the way our story was laid out.

Title sequence normally goes in the order of:
1. Name of studio
2. Name of production company
3. Producer/ directors name
4. Starring
5. Film title
6. Featuring
7. Cast
8. Music/ music composed by
9. Executive producer
10. Based on the book by -From a play/book by
11.Based on the characters
12. (screen) story / Story by
13.Written by

Font Used

The font they normally use different font to link to the movie so sometimes they use quirky and different to make the film look more interesting and unique.

Normally we would see the font in all sides of the frame sometimes its moving and sometimes it can be on the top, bottom, left side or right side it depends on what the editor chooses.

We normally hear music or dialogue when the font of the opening credits are up. we are normally introduced to characters or get the names of actors who are staring in the film.

The conventions of title sequence of a teen drama is the order of the credits and also how many production and distribution companies that sponsor the film because the more distribution and production companies you have the more money.

Filming Final movie

During the filming stage our group were more confident handling the  camera. We used various equipment to improve our footage e.g. stabiliser and tripod. These allowed us to film footage that wasn't shaky and unprofessional.  We followed the 180 degrees rule and we also made sure we framed carefully this time. We was also careful with the mis-en-scene. We made sure that the area looked like a teen 'Hood' area e.g we filmed in a local park and in a council estate. The lighting was key. We used natural lighting when outside so the footage looks realistic and not fake.

Editing the final movie

At this stage everyone in the group had improved with their editing skills we knew. We were able to do continuity editing and our match cuts were successful. We used various shots and angles for our film which gave our opening a dynamic and made it look more visually interesting. We also added a sound track in the background which goes along with the theme of our film.

Through editing we learnt how to create different moods such as tension and mystery by cutting shots and and making the past faster or slower.

Development of skills

Throughout the whole task i've noticed the drastic change with the skills i have developed. I was more confident and able to use high tech software towards the end in comparison to when i first started using it. My editing skills became more professional looking as I learnt and took in important tips and tricks.

I developed with my researching skills as I learnt how to research more in depth I knew what to research and how to research so our final film would appeal to our target audience.

I learnt how to frame my shots properly as I learnt from my mistakes from before and left no headroom this time.

Looking back at my journey I think i've improved with my skills and i enjoyed every second of it. I learnt useful tips and tricks which benefited me for the final product.

EVALUATION Q1)

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Conventions are important for every film especially teen films. Conventions allows an audience to relate and have a better understanding of a film. Conventions were our main focus for our opening scene as it has a title sequence with music in the background. Our inspirations came from films such as 'HonetTrap' and 'Kidulthood'.

Below I have made a slide show going through conventions of a teen drama. I was not able to embed the slide show because my account was a student private account and I was unaware this would stop me from uploading it on my blogs.
http://storybird.com/books/q1-conventions-of-a-title-sequence/?token=wfa89pbcc5

Differences Our movie follows strict conventions of a film opening, however movies such as 'Shank' shows all of its credits and title at the beginning with no shots in the background. While in our movie actors are credited whilst there is action on the screen due to the fact that we wanted our opening titles sequence to be over moving images.

52 farewells

We have reached the end of my blogging experience! It has been extremely stressful and challenging at times but I got through it in the end ! I have learnt more than I thought I would and I have also enjoyed being able to explore more and actually capture every little moment of our film making process.

Until next time guys!,thank you for viewing my blog.

Blog update

On Friday 6th march I completed my final edit and Joseph finished adding the titles. Filming had been quite difficult as was had to go. Away four times to shoot the whole title sequence opening again. This was mainly due to the lack of a strong story , also creatively it was a challenge as I also had to edit and add the skin. Editing for the first time had been a great learning experience  and I have enjoyed every last minute of it. The title sequence in the end made up for the weak storyline as I able to get a wide variety of shots which help create a stronger piece overall.

Task 24

Here is some typefaces we could have used for out title sequence. Some look urban which is what our theme is and we want it to attract people to our title sequence and by using a typeface that can happen.

Task 51

Blogging has been a challenging new experience but I can now say I am confident in my blogging skills. I believe I was successful in showing all stages of the production process, from the planning to pictures of us on location shooting and any other additional ideas or adjustments .

Throughought blogging and creating our title sequence I could've been more consistent with my blogging as I began to blog less at one stage. This was due to me having 3 roles to do which included filming, editing and sound.

Given another opportunity there is allot that I would change.i would make sure that there was never a week where I was not blogging and in terms of our creative piece i would of liked to have a very strong storyline . I feel that way more could've been achieved on a whole. I was able to complete 21 blogs individually and had a total of 57 blogs.

It has been a massive learning curve but I did it!

Copyright Free sounds

Here are some copyright free sounds that could be used.

Foley Sounds
-sounds of keys in the door
-turning on of the computer
-door shutting
-wind blowing

Task 29 - Sound Design

Music

The music we are going for will be urban and ghetto type music to emphasise the danger in these two characters and ensure that the youth of today enjoy this type of music, here we have a short list of the copyright free sounds.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBKzCjFnxgg - Jay-Z - F*ck with me you know I got it

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLQdoclJn_s - Meek Mill ft Rick Ross - Imma Boss

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rLIAm6IpoA - Ace Hood ft Future, Rick Ross - Bugatti

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlaPFZs-DkA - French Montana - Ain't worry 'bout nothin

These tracks are by popular artists that are very common with teenagers today and used these for inspiration for our title sequence.

Foley Sound

The foley sounds we may use will be the clicking of a mouse when our male protagonist is on his computer to check the files on the USB.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxtE3wvlkKc - this is an example of the type of sound we need for the foley sound for the computer.

Initial Ideas

Which Sub-Genre will you create?

Youth Drama/Action

Initial Plot
Main Character (Sara) has a USB with secrets on it and leaves it in a park so that her friend aka her partner in crime comes to collect it to make sure everything is on it. our title sequence ends when he has put the USB in his computer and the files have opened up. This gives the viewers some suspense because they don's know what will happen next.

Characters
Sarah Smith- the mysterious bad girl
Charlie Johnson-The mysterious guy who has the USB in his possession

Social Groups
The youth of today and how they are portrayed in society and by others. The social groups are been influenced by the film Kidulthood.

4 types of film openings

My favourite film opening is City of God because it was very interesting and it went straight into the film with music and text. This type of opening is called Title over moving images.

Task 52

MY VLOG COULDN'T UPLOAD DUE TO THE SIZE, SO I HAVE TYPED UP MY ANSWERS :

  • My blog was successful, because i got mostly all of the tasks done on time and it was at proficient level of knowledge and understanding.
  • My blog shows all the aspects of Research, Planning and Production in a decent amount of information and different uses of ICT.
  • There are some gaps in my blogging work, some tasks were done, but not completed and a few weren't done at all, which is quite disappointing.
  • I done 25 individual tasks on my blog all the other entries are group tasks.
  • If i was given an other opportunity, i would change the storyline for our title sequence. Since it being a youth drama, i would of included a back story to the plot, also add action to it.

Task 30 - Location

Finsbury Park - North London

Our first location was Finsbury Park but then we decided to change it because we realised we would get a larger range of shots at Memorial Park in West Ham instead, and that is why we selected this park.
West Ham - Memorial Park

Task 44 - website created for our film USB

We have created a website for our film for promotion purposes. this includes the cast and crewand information about the film. We have used a certain colour them and layout to attract our teen unisex target market. The website is called "The Passover" because that was the initial title of the film and we were unable to change the site URL.

Below is the link to our website

Task 31+32 - Costume activity

This outfit is for the actress handing in the usb. Sha has to look 'bad' and up to no good. She is wearing dark clothing to emphasise her mysterious and dangerous behaviour and make it evident  to the audience that she is involved in criminal activity. She is also wearing stylisht trainers to make her look for urban.

This outfit is for the person recieving the usb.  He was also wearing dark clothes, trainers and a hoody to emphasise the fact that he is also a mysterious and dangerous character.

Task 28 - Media texts that influenced us

Even though this title sequence has nothing to do with our youth drama genre; we still got inspiration from it as it uses titles with motion and this exactly how we want ours to be like. It also uses music in the background to block out the sound of the scene. We would like to also add a soundtrack in the background to make the opening sequence more interesting. Also adding a soundtrack while the titles are appearing will also give the audience an idea of what the film may be about e.g. the type of film or genre of film.
Film 4 has many idents which have inspired us with how we want our idents to look. We like the way they are creative using different and complicated graphics in their ident and we would like to do something similar to that.

This scene is the racing scene taken from Fast and Furious 6. The only relevant part of this scene for our film is the camera movement and shots. We liked the way they used continuity editing and various match-cuts. We hope to use this in our opening sequence as we believe that different angle shots gives the film a bit of dynamic and makes it interesting and enjoyable to look at. We would also like to use match cutting when the main character uses and hands the usb over, as this is a key prop and we would like to make that obvious for the audience.

Task 25 - Order of title credits

The order of our credit will be:

DB Productions
Lion Paws
Unknown Suspicious Behaviour
Sarah Rrukaj
James Davidson
Casting By
Costume By
Music By
Edited y
Written By
Directed By

Task 24 -shortlist of font styles and typeface

We wanted to use fonts that are simple yet effective. We also wanted our fonts to match the youth drama theme. The fonts chosen above are some of the main font styles we would like to use as they look good with our film title 'Unknown Suspicious Behaiviour' as it looks mysterious but not too over the top.

Task 23 - Which Institution will produce our film?

We are an independant production which means there will be very few distributers involved in our film. Our main institution company will be Candi as they will be providing us with our filming and editing equipment.

As we are an independent production our film opening will therefore affect our opening title sequence. We wont have as many titles like they do in mainstream productions as we are a low budget film; this means we will have less titles and a couple idents beacuse we would have only a few people to credit on our opening

Mainstream films will have a range of idents this is because institution invest into the film to fund project in production such as the crew, equipment, location/studio and many others things that are affected by budget.

Our film will not be a big enough film institution to attract big distributers such as Walt Disney, Colombia pictures, Paramount Pictures and many more. However, being a low budget film we could be able to get smaller film distributors like the 'UK Film Council' (which distributed the film FishTank) or 'Revolver Entertainment' (which distributed the film Kidulthood). 'BBC FILM' could also be another film distributor as they are known to distribute low budgeted films in the UK, they even distributed films like FishTank and StreetDance 3D.

Friday 6 March 2015

Task 22 - Initial ideas

Which sub-genre will you create?

The sub-genre we plan to create is a youth drama/ action, so that youth of today can relate to, we have tried to make it as relatable able as possible by dressing our characters with the latest fashion trends of the youth of today, which includes Nike Huaraches and Adidas ZX Flux for their trainers.

Initial plot / storyline

Girl (played by Sara) places a usb in a secret spot where only her partner in crime knows. The guy then comes and takes the usb which has some sort of suspicious content and goes home to look whats in it. The title sequence then ends on him opening the usb up on his computer. This creates suspense and tension causing a cliff hanger. The purpose of this is to make the audience want to carry on watching the film and to question what is in the mysterious usb.

Character Types

Characters will look agressive and 'hood' this will make them look intimidating and give the youth sort of vibe as teenagers these days are quite moody and aggressive. The two main characters are a young female teenager and a young teenage male. These two characters are dressed similar in a sense that they are both dressed in dark clothing to represent their dangerous and mysterious personality.

Social groups

Social groups presented in this film are youths today mainly those living in council estates which society looks down upon. This represents a stereotypical presentation of youths today as they are assumed of being violent and up to no good in the streets. This is the sort of vibe our film is trying to give off sort of how the film 'Kidulthood' does.
