Filming Final movie 

During the filming stage our group were more confident handling the  camera. We used various equipment to improve our footage e.g. stabiliser and tripod. These allowed us to film footage that wasn't shaky and unprofessional.  We followed the 180 degrees rule and we also made sure we framed carefully this time. We was also careful with the mis-en-scene. We made sure that the area looked like a teen 'Hood' area e.g we filmed in a local park and in a council estate. The lighting was key. We used natural lighting when outside so the footage looks realistic and not fake.                                                                                                  

Editing the final movie

At this stage everyone in the group had improved with their editing skills we knew. We were able to do continuity editing and our match cuts were successful. We used various shots and angles for our film which gave our opening a dynamic and made it look more visually interesting. We also added a sound track in the background which goes along with the theme of our film.

Through editing we learnt how to create different moods such as tension and mystery by cutting shots and and making the past faster or slower.

Development of skills

 Throughout the whole task i've noticed the drastic change with the skills i have developed. I was more confident and able to use high tech software towards the end in comparison to when i first started using it. My editing skills became more professional looking as I learnt and took in important tips and tricks.

I developed with my researching skills as I learnt how to research more in depth I knew what to research and how to research so our final film would appeal to our target audience.

I learnt how to frame my shots properly as I learnt from my mistakes from before and left no headroom this time.

Looking back at my journey I think i've improved with my skills and i enjoyed every second of it. I learnt useful tips and tricks which benefited me for the final product.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Conventions are important for every film especially teen films. Conventions allows an audience to relate and have a better understanding of a film. Conventions were our main focus for our opening scene as it has a title sequence with music in the background. Our inspirations came from films such as 'HonetTrap' and 'Kidulthood'.

Below I have made a slide show going through conventions of a teen drama. I was not able to embed the slide show because my account was a student private account and I was unaware this would stop me from uploading it on my blogs.

Differences Our movie follows strict conventions of a film opening, however movies such as 'Shank' shows all of its credits and title at the beginning with no shots in the background. While in our movie actors are credited whilst there is action on the screen due to the fact that we wanted our opening titles sequence to be over moving images.

The music we are going for will be urban and ghetto type music to emphasise the danger in these two characters and ensure that the youth of today enjoy this type of music, here we have a short list of the copyright free sounds.

Foley Sound

The foley sounds we may use will be the clicking of a mouse when our male protagonist is on his computer to check the files on the USB.

Finsbury Park - North London


Our first location was Finsbury Park but then we decided to change it because we realised we would get a larger range of shots at Memorial Park in West Ham instead, and that is why we selected this park.

We have created a website for our film for promotion purposes. this includes the cast and crewand information about the film. We have used a certain colour them and layout to attract our teen unisex target market. The website is called "The Passover" because that was the initial title of the film and we were unable to change the site URL.

Task 31+32 - Costume activity

This outfit is for the actress handing in the usb. Sha has to look 'bad' and up to no good. She is wearing dark clothing to emphasise her mysterious and dangerous behaviour and make it evident  to the audience that she is involved in criminal activity. She is also wearing stylisht trainers to make her look for urban.

This outfit is for the person recieving the usb.  He was also wearing dark clothes, trainers and a hoody to emphasise the fact that he is also a mysterious and dangerous character.

Task 28 - Media texts that influenced us

Even though this title sequence has nothing to do with our youth drama genre; we still got inspiration from it as it uses titles with motion and this exactly how we want ours to be like. It also uses music in the background to block out the sound of the scene.We would like to also add a soundtrack in the background to make the opening sequence more interesting. Also adding a soundtrack while the titles are appearing will also give the audience an idea of what the film may be about e.g. the type of film or genre of film.

Film 4 has many idents which have inspired us with how we want our idents to look. We like the way they are creative using different and complicated graphics in their ident and we would like to do something similar to that.

This scene is the racing scene taken from Fast and Furious 6. The only relevant part of this scene for our film is the camera movement and shots. We liked the way they used continuity editing and various match-cuts. We hope to use this in our opening sequence as we believe that different angle shots gives the film a bit of dynamic and makes it interesting and enjoyable to look at. We would also like to use match cutting when the main character uses and hands the usb over, as this is a key prop and we would like to make that obvious for the audience.

Task 24 -shortlist of font styles and typeface

We wanted to use fonts that are simple yet effective. We also wanted our fonts to match the youth drama theme. The fonts chosen above are some of the main font styles we would like to use as they look good with our film title 'Unknown Suspicious Behaiviour' as it looks mysterious but not too over the top.

Task 23 - Which Institution will produce our film?

We are an independant production which means there will be very few distributers involved in our film. Our main institution company will be Candi as they will be providing us with our filming and editing equipment. 

As we are an independent production our film opening will therefore affect our opening title sequence. We wont have as many titles like they do in mainstream productions as we are a low budget film; this means we will have less titles and a couple idents beacuse we would have only a few people to credit on our opening

Mainstream films will have a range of idents this is because institution invest into the film to fund project in production such as the crew, equipment, location/studio and many others things that are affected by budget.

Our film will not be a big enough film institution to attract big distributers such as Walt Disney, Colombia pictures, Paramount Pictures and many more. However, being a low budget film we could be able to get smaller film distributors like the 'UK Film Council' (which distributed the film FishTank) or 'Revolver Entertainment' (which distributed the film Kidulthood). 'BBC FILM' could also be another film distributor as they are known to distribute low budgeted films in the UK, they even distributed films like FishTank and StreetDance 3D.

Task 22 - Initial ideas

Which sub-genre will you create? 

The sub-genre we plan to create is a youth drama/ action, so that youth of today can relate to, we have tried to make it as relatable able as possible by dressing our characters with the latest fashion trends of the youth of today, which includes Nike Huaraches and Adidas ZX Flux for their trainers.

Initial plot / storyline

Girl (played by Sara) places a usb in a secret spot where only her partner in crime knows. The guy then comes and takes the usb which has some sort of suspicious content and goes home to look whats in it. The title sequence then ends on him opening the usb up on his computer. This creates suspense and tension causing a cliff hanger. The purpose of this is to make the audience want to carry on watching the film and to question what is in the mysterious usb.

Character Types

Characters will look agressive and 'hood' this will make them look intimidating and give the youth sort of vibe as teenagers these days are quite moody and aggressive. The two main characters are a young female teenager and a young teenage male. These two characters are dressed similar in a sense that they are both dressed in dark clothing to represent their dangerous and mysterious personality.

Social groups

Social groups presented in this film are youths today mainly those living in council estates which society looks down upon. This represents a stereotypical presentation of youths today as they are assumed of being violent and up to no good in the streets. This is the sort of vibe our film is trying to give off sort of how the film 'Kidulthood' does.

Task 17 - practical remake activity evaluation (the breakfast club)

My group and i decided to remake the title sequence of 'The Breakfas Club'.

I believe that many things went well with our remake of the title sequence of 'The Breakfast Club'.
With the limited time we had to create the title sequence I think it was quite a success.
However our title sequence was not perfect as some shots were shakey and wasn't as steady as it shouldv'e been.
If we had another chance to re-film the title sequence here are the things I would change

1) A larger variety of shots taken from different angles
2) Explore with the style of the titles
3) Use a more appealing colours and fonts of the titles
4) Be more steady with the camera 5) Plan longer and be more organised
6) Use continuity editing
7) Using match cuts would add a dynamic to the tytle sequence making it more interesting to watch

The film 10 Things I Hate About you, this film had a budget of $16 million which also allowed it to incorporate more credits into the title sequence because it had more credits

The difference between the mainstream productions and the independent productions is that the mainstream productions have much more credits to offer simply because they have a higher budget.The opening weekend for Mean Girls earned $854,852 this was because of the type of release, Mean Girls was released internationally meaning it appealed to more people all over the world. Whereas My Brother The Devil was only released nationwide which is why it earned $10,305 on its opening weekend release.
